Only a few more posts till my 200th! Who would have imagined that when I first began my blog? I'm thinking of a way to celebrate... I'll let you know what I come up with.
We have a nasty cold front coming in tonight, and the radar shows that the line of rain is very close to us. It's been 47 all day but with a wind chill. I spent all of yesterday getting as much done outside as I could while it was still warm. "Make hay while the sun shines," as the saying goes. My back was really hurting by the end of the day. I've had a tough couple of days in a lot of ways.
Susie, our part-pyrenees, accompanied me out in the field yesterday, as she always does. She roams through the dead grass and bushes and comes back to touch base with me, then goes off in another direction. She loves to chase the little songbirds, and to wade out in the big pond for a drink. As we walked through the field we startled a blue heron on the little pond, which took off clumsily. Susie looked as though she was thinking about giving chase. I told her that bird was bigger than she is. Later, I heard her barking to the north of me, out near the road. That's out of character for her when she isn't in the barnyard, so I moved to a spot where I could see her through the leafless trees and called her. She finally spotted me (red coat - it is deer hunting season after all so the brown coat is strictly off limits for now!) and came running, all the while looking back over her shoulder and jumping as though she was afraid she was being chased. I have no idea what she thought was after her, and I decided the better part of valor was NOT investigating.
Sounds like rain on the roof; evidently the storm has arrived.
Till next time...
