I was pleasantly surprised the other day when my dh asked when I was going to make more plantain salve, so I made some the very next day.
I'd infused olive oil with plantain in the spring, so it was a simple matter of melting the beeswax and mixing with the oil. I start with 3 Tbsp of oil and 1 Tbsp of beeswax; if it doesn't set up the way I desire then I add more of one or the other.
The guineas are going to the auction tonight. The dogs like to kill them (they don't like them free-ranging; birds are supposed to stay in the coop, according to them) and it doesn't make sense to keep the tick-eaters locked up and have to feed them. So, bye-bye guineas...
Dh is a much better guinea-catcher than I am. He caught them all in about ten minutes in the dark before he left for work this morning. We left the cages inside the coop so the dogs wouldn't fuss and worry them.
Two extra roosters are going to the auction with them, so that leaves me with four hens and my big roo, and the 13 chicks in the brooder.
During our hot summer afternoons I am working on decluttering the house. My goal is to get rid of 50 items before August 31st. They must be items that I've been hanging onto for some reason, not just "stuff" that is laying around or junk mail or something broken - of course, those things need to be gotten rid of too, but they don't "count". So far, I've added 16 things to my giveaway box, and have lots of homeschool books for sale (if you're interested, ask me for my list!)
