Help From the Breadmaker

After reading my Kitchen post, a friend said she’d like to know how to use her breadmaker to mix and knead the dough, without baking it in the machine.

Most, if not all, breadmakers have settings like White, Whole Wheat, Sweet and French. Usually the first setting is the White/Bake one that everyone uses. You just push Start and wait for hot bread.

If it has another button - mine says "Select" - try pushing that button a few times and see what comes up on the display screen. Mine has 3-4 settings for White, then another 3-4 for Wheat, several for Sweet, etc.

I use the White/Dough and the Wheat/Dough settings. In 1 hour and 45 minutes, it mixes the ingredients, kneads, and lets it rise once, then beeps and shuts off. I take the pan out, dump the dough on the counter, knead it again, let it rise in a loaf pan, then bake in the oven for about 20-30 minutes at 350ยบ.
