What a Day!

I sat down in my rocking chair this morning and was stung/bitten by an insect of some sort. I squashed it before I figured out what it was. A big fire ant?

We went outside to go to the store to get dog food et al. Carter our big dog wouldn't get out from under the pickup. He loves to sleep under there. DS went back in the house to get a piece of bread to coax him out. DS came out without the keys. And so we spent an hour outside trying to break into our house. :-) And we actually succeeded, which is kind of scary in itself. I gathered the mail from the mailbox while we were locked out, and put it in the truck.

I noticed a black chicken wing in a corner of the yard. I only have one black chicken and as far as I know, she is still in my chicken coop, but the dogs evidently ate a black bird of some kind. As I went in the garage I found more black feathers - with white tips. I have no idea what kind of bird it was or where it came from. The wing I found seemed small for a turkey vulture, which is what I think it was from the straight, white-tipped feathers.

At the store, I had three new housekeys made: one for DS (who says we never gave him back his keys when he got home from the Army two weeks ago), another for DD (we borrowed her key back in February to give to our housesitter and never gave it back to her) and a third to keep in my pocket at all times. I'm trying to cover all contingencies!

Back home, I opened the mail. I could have redeemed that coupon for free cat litter while I was at the store if I'd opened it before going.

It's not the worst day, by any means, but it's been a frustrating day.
