Dehydrated sliced mushrooms, chopped onions, and sliced pears leftover from dinner. The jars are vacuum-packed and in the cupboard. Mushrooms are great powdered and added to soups and stews.
Canned tri-berry jam from strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. I'd been saving the fruit in the freezer and finally got around to making it. It's a bit heavier on the blackberries and lighter on the strawberries than the original recipe, but it is very tasty.
Our older peach tree was snapped off at the ground this week in all the wind/storms. Must add another to my wishlist at Stark Bros.
After Tuesday's tornadoes, we wondered if our cell phones would work from the storm shelter, so I went down into "the hole" and ran a test. I sent a text message to a friend and called my husband. The phone call had a loud echo, but it was caused by the storm shelter rather than in the phone connection - but we could carry on a conversation. My friend called to let me know the text went through, but she was unable to understand anything I said. Text messaging works though - a good thing.
Actually, the tornado warning gave us a great opportunity to check out our tornado preparations. It took only a few minutes to get ready for the possibility of having to run for our shelter; we then watched the weather radar online and listened to the weather radio. I am happy with our level of readiness, although it did point out a few things that we can tweak.
