Homestead Cats

Cats are an often-overlooked part of a homestead.

When we moved to Oak Hill the yard was full of gopher holes. It didn't take long for our new cats to take care of that problem.

Likewise the rats that we found when we cleaned out the run-in shed before getting our first horse.

I don't worry about mice or rats stealing feed.

Cats are graceful and beautiful, and are fun to watch and to play with.

I think they are an important addition to a farm, ranch or homestead.

If you don't have one yet, you can probably adopt one from a neighbor, or find a free kitten at a farm auction or a yard sale in town, or provide a home for a cat in a shelter.
