-- A nearby friend asked me this weekend if I needed a livestock guardian dog (LGD). One of her dogs, although proven with goat kids, has turned out to be unreliable with free-range poultry, and she raises chickens. On Monday the dog "Julie" came here on trial, and has fit in well so far. My goats are afraid of her of course, but she has done well with them, and has ignored the cats and kittens, something I was worried about. I have on occasion been called a crazy cat lady. In the past month I've lost four of my adult cats and most of the kittens, all at night. I began shutting up the remaining kittens at night in the big dog crate. I'm hoping that Julie will make a difference.
