Friday Follow-Up

Next week is Oak Hill Homestead blog's NINTH ANNIVERSARY. I'm celebrating - and thanking you, my loyal readers - with a week of fun giveaways. Stay tuned for the chance to win some great prizes.

This week:

Mama Duck rolled two eggs out of her nest. I was afraid she'd keep doing that, since she did this two days in a row, but she hasn't done it again since then. As the saying goes, "don't count your ducklings before they hatch."

I spent a morning redoing the roof over the pigs' pen. The sheets of metal roofing were just laid over a corner of the pen, and they'd figured out how to get them to fall down. Evidently they were bored, and it was fun to play on the metal sheets that rested with one end on the ground and the other against the fence. They also made a good place to scratch one's back.

So this time I made the roof a little more substantial, with a framework of 2x4's and everything tied down so that hopefully it will all stay in place. We've had a lot of rain this week (again!) and I don't like them to be without shelter.

Have a blessed week!

  1. Such ungrateful lil piggies! I hope you get a chance to dry out a little bit, so your flora doesn't all drown - then again, to hear of the coming drought, the water table could sure use it... Oh to have a modern-day Joseph, about now!
    Many blessings!

I know, Carla! So far the pigs' roof is holding up. We've had a LOT of rain in the past 3 days as well as a nearby tornado, and several more days of rain in the forecast. Can I send you some?

  3. I don't think so, Kathi. Yesterday started a 4 day jag of rain for us. Wait. It came from the west, sooo... You already did! Ha!
(please tell me yours is done for a bit?)
    Carla ;D

No, we're not done! Lots more rain today and more tomorrow. So far Monday looks dry, but then there's more in the forecast. We'll probably have the wettest May *ever* in Oklahoma. We're already over the normal month's rainfall and it's only the 9th. Not complaining.

  5. WOW! That's a lot of rain, for that part of the country. Are you filling barrels, in case the rest of the growing season goes dry?

Yep, anything that will hold water!
