And More Kids...

On Friday Dove had a single doeling, the same color as Splendor's blond doeling. Dove is a first freshener but she took to mothering like a duck to water.

All day long Wish was "talking", especially when Dove's kid was born, and continued long into the evening. She wanted that new kid, it was hers. When I checked at 8:30 PM I saw a mild contraction, and all the while she was talking through the fence at that baby in the kidding stall next to hers. I was actually starting to worry that something was wrong, but eventually she delivered a huge brown doeling. This kid was bigger at birth than Lavender's big week-old twins. As she dried, she turned roan. Wish is always a wonderful mother.

The following day Mercy had a single kid. As soon as I saw this one I knew it had to be a buck, and it is. It's the most colorful kid this year - black with white polkadots. It's one of Murphy's laws I think: the most colorful kids will be bucks.

Spots is the sire of Dove's blond doeling and Mercy's spotted buckling; Honor sired Wish's roan doeling.

I have a break now till early May when Treasure is due; she's the last for this year.

  1. Gorgeous kids!
    It's true - the most colorful are always the boys - same in cows. The jerseys born with pretty white spots are nearly always bulls. ;{
