Blog birthday

Today, the Oak Hill Homestead blog is six years old - I started the blog on 5/12/2006. Of course, it's evolved since then and looks much different now.

The most popular post has always been Hay Baling, posted in 2007. It's at the top of the Google listings if you search for "baling hay by hand". It pulls in hundreds of page views each week from all over the world.

As of today, there are 1,388 published posts.

Just for fun, here are a few of my favorite photos from over the years:

Dream, drying off after her bath at the county fair - you'll notice that my daughter didn't get all the soapsuds off. Dream was awarded Champion Dairy Doe at the fair that year. She and her half-sister Hope were my very first goats, bought as weanlings.

I had a pair of embden geese for about a year. Our neighbor gave them to me when her husband was so sick with cancer and she had to seriously downsize their livestock. Watching the geese in the barnyard was one of my favorite things. They were so peaceful and yet so amusing.

My youngest daughter took this photo in January 2008, another of my favorite photos. This cat was always included in the group of Susie's pups. We kept 3 of them since we lost both Susie and the pups' father shortly after this picture was taken. Precious is the only one left; she's the one on the left, lying down.

Sheik, Easter, and Logan (left to right) in the wintertime.

Our daughter on Easter, shortly after we adopted Easter from a horse rescue.

And lastly, our granddaughter on one of her summer visits, with the three grown-up pups. I've been so thankful to be able to give her the horsey summers that my grandparents gave me.

  1. Kathi,
Thank you so much for your comment on my blog! :) And I wanted to wish you and your blog a happy blog-birthday, and to praise the Lord with you for the time He's given you in it, and that He will bless you with many more!

Lord willing, I'll comment a reply about the fencing for you on my blog one day really soon! Things have been so busy around here.

I pray the Lord blesses you. :) The gift of the country is something I always feel like I can't cherish enough... I know your grandaughter will always remember what you've given her.

May Jesus bless you in so many special ways,
