A Slice of My Life

This is one of my favorite days of the year, almost rivaling my birthday: the day the plum trees burst into bloom and spring is here! We planted these trees the fall that we first moved here, fourteen years ago.

Last year we had a late, hard freeze at the end of the blooming period and didn't have much of a harvest. This year was ideal: yesterday was probably our last frost, right before the trees blossomed. I'm looking forward to a bumper crop of red plums and yellow plums.

Bees and butterflies are going crazy with this early food source, as they always do. The flowers are covered with them, and I can hear the buzzing almost as soon as I walk out the front door. They too are happy that spring is here.
