A Slice of My Life

Sunset behind a pond.

The other night we headed home from town rather late. Late for us, anyway. We're rarely out after dark.

The sun was setting fast and I knew I'd be feeding the horses and goats by flashlight when we got home.

Winter isn't my favorite time of year, more because of the shorter daylight hours than the weather. It's hard trying to put enough hours between the livestock's breakfast and dinner when it seems to be dark all the time.

I realized we'd be passing a certain flood-control pond on the west side of the highway as the sun was setting behind it. I've often wished that I could capture a sunset reflecting on that pond. This was my chance.

Hubby was driving so I pulled my phone out of my purse and turned on the camera. And I waited. And I waited. Hmm, we weren't quite as close to the pond as I'd thought we were.

I hoped the sun wouldn't be below the horizon when we finally arrived. We traveled the last four or five miles and finally we were passing the pond, and I lowered the truck's passenger-side window and snapped a few photos as we passed by.

Sunset behind the pond

There "could have been" a bit more color. There "could have been" a few more clouds. But it's still a beautiful image in my opinion. I was happy to get what I got.

And when we were finally home, I fed the horses and goats by flashlight. Because you can't have everything, right?
